Do You Have A Jefferson Jesus?

A few months ago, my mom bought Thomas Jefferson’s book, “The Four Gospels” for me. Basically, he rewrote the bible, but clipped out certain portions that he didn’t believe in. His beliefs were founded upon what he thought, and not on biblical absolutes. For example: There is no mention of a miraculous virgin birth, many healing miracles were eliminated, and it ends with the story of soldiers rolling a stone over the tomb… with no resurrection. He left out almost all of the supernatural events. If there was no resurrection, then we have no hope of heaven and our own personal resurrection. If there was no miraculous virgin birth, then Jesus would not be God on earth and prophecies of the Old Testaments would be lies. If there were no lepers healed, blind eyes opened, or dead raised up, we would not have faith for healings or comfort today. In a nutshell, we would have life with no hope. And hope is exactly what this world needs. The question of the day is: “So have you shared your hope today?”

Having family in Louisiana and Mississippi, and listening to them speak of how Jesus is going to help them through the after effects of Hurricane Katrina, I can’t explain the peace I feel knowing they have hope. But if they had a Jefferson Jesus, they would have no hope. Do you have a Jefferson Jesus?

Thanks for listening.
